FoBiG – Experts in human exposure and risk assessment

FoBiG is a privately owned consulting institute specialised in regulatory toxicology with more than two decades of experience in exposure assessment and toxicological risk characterisation. FoBiG’s main competences include the qualitative and quantitative in-depth assessment of chemical substances (preparation of monographs, classification and labelling, derivation of reference values), provision of services with regard to the requirements of various regulatory areas (biocides, chemicals, consumer products etc.), the analysis, development and improvement of risk assessment methods and the establishment of exposure scenarios and quantitative exposure assessments.

FoBiG provides expertise in a broad range of regulatory fields, among them:

  • Chemicals legislation (REACH, CLP)
  • EU Biocidal Products Regulation
  • Assessment of chemicals at the workplace
  • Food toxicology
  • Health risk characterisation of chemicals in environmental media
(soil, air, indoor air, drinking water).

In order to provide high-level experience in all scientific areas relevant for biocides FoBiG joined forces with competent partners (Battelle, ECT, Hydrotox) to form RegisGate.
Based on its broad experience in human health risk assessment within this partnership FoBiG covers the human health and exposure assessment, following ECHA guidance on biocides (as well as guidance developed under the previous BPD), and considering latest developments, such as HEEG (Human Exposure Expert Group) opinions to achieve maximum acceptance of submitted product dossiers by Competent Authorities and ECHA.
Apart from services for industry FoBiG was engaged in several research projects for national competent authorities in the area of exposure and risk assessment for biocides, among them:

  • Occupational exposure from the use of biocidal products. Part 3: Exposure scenarios and control measures for the application of molluscicides, insecticides, repellents and attractants, 2006-2008; for the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), Dortmund/Berlin/Dresden, research project F 1922.

  • Feasibility Study on the Support of the Information Requirement in Compliance with §22 ChemG on Alternative Measures for the Minimization of the Use of Biocides, 2004-2006M; for the German Federal Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt) Berlin/Dessau, in cooperation with Hydrotox GmbH, Freiburg.
